TWO NEW DIRECTORS

Burlington Industries, Inc. (NYSE:BUR) announced that Jerald Blumberg and W. Barger Tygart have been elected to the company's Board of Directors for terms expiring at the February, 2000 and February, 1999 Annual Meetings of Shareholders, respectively.

Mr. Blumberg is president, CEO and a director of Ambar Inc., an oil and gas field services company owned by The Beacon Group Energy Fund LP. Formerly, he was executive vice president of DuPont, a member of the office of chief executive and chairman of DuPont Europe until his retirement in December 1997. He joined DuPont in 1960 and held various engineering, technical, marketing, sales and managerial positions, including leadership roles in the company's Asian and European operations. He was named senior vice president of DuPont Fibers in 1992 and continued to oversee fibers until his retirement.

Mr. Blumberg, a graduate of Michigan Technological University, lives in Houston.

Mr. Tygart was president and chief operating officer of The J.C. Penney Company from 1995 to 1997 and serves as vice chairman of the board of directors until his planned retirement at the end of April, 1998. He joined J.C. Penney in 1960 and held various positions ranging from department manager to store manager to division merchandise manager before being elected a regional manager in 1985. He became senior executive vice president in 1992. In 1997 he was elected vice chairman of the board.

Mr. Tygart is chairman of the Council of Past Presidents of the Fashion Association and a director of North Texas Public Broadcasting. He is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University and lives in Dallas.
